The Designer

Alice Temperley was born in 1975 in Somerset, England. She grew up on a cider farm, the eldest of four children. She left London when she was 18 years old. There she graduated in textile design from Central St. Martin’s and then went on to take a master’s in textile printing and technology ant the Royal College of Art. She produced evening dresses for Fred Segal and Giorgio in Los Angeles.

Even before graduating, Alice was approached by several high-profile designers to join their team, including Donna Karan. In her final year she worked on collections for Bulgari and Valentino, among others.

Then she spent a year in Hong Kong studying the production side of the garment business.

In 1999 Alice started up her own label. Her clothes have a vintage feel with a modern aesthetic. They are beautifully feminine and elegant, hand-worked, cleverly cut and finished with details like ruffled necks, chiffon-covered buttons, and intricate embroidery.

After bowing her Temperley label in London in 2000, Alice Temperley gathered a lot of steam in her native country. The line made its runway debut in London in 2003, and by the time the time the designer moved the show to New York for the spring 2006 presentations, she had already amassed an impressive roster of 150 retail stores (and counting) worldwide, including Bergdorf Goodman and Selfridge’s, worldwide. She has her flagship showroom in London.

Temperley London is entering its fourteenth year of business in 2014 with its namesake creative director Alice Temperley, MBE heading up the independent British luxury brand. Temperley creates clothes that memories are made in, with a design signature that has made her one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary British fashion.

The Company

The world of Temperley houses three lines; Temperley London, ALICE by Temperley and Temperley Bridal.

‘Temperley London’ is a feminine, timeless designer collection with an individual ethereal signature of effortless luxury. Detail is paramount with artisan techniques and hand worked embellished incorporating inspirations from around the globe and drawing on all things British in lifestyle and personality.

‘ALICE by Temperley’, the contemporary sister line to Temperley London, launched in 2010 is created with the same spirit of Temperley, but for the everyday with a rock n’ roll twist, offering key signatures such as lace, leather, tailoring, knitwear and relaxed eveningwear.

‘Temperley Bridal’ launched in 2006, has expanded to two collections a year and is sold at leading bridal ateliers worldwide as well as in exclusive Bridal Salons found in all Temperley own-brand boutiques. Temperley Bridal offers made-to-order, bespoke and ready-to-wear styles.

Temperley London has also expanded into lifestyle with leather goods, Temperley Scented Candles and Temperley Scarves with plans to move into further categories.

The past thirteen years have earned the Temperley brand critical acclaim and devoted fans around the world. Amongst others, ‘Temperley London’ fans include; Catherine Duchess of Cambridge, Florence Welch, Penélope Cruz and Jennifer Lopez, with fans of ‘ALICE by Temperley’ ranging from Beyonce, Jessica Biel and Emma Watson to Hailee Steinfeld and Katy Perry.

The company currently operates five standalone stores; two in London (a Flagship in London’s Mayfair and a destination boutique in Notting Hill), Dubai (the Dubai Mall), Doha, Qatar (the Gate Mall) as well as an outlet in Bicester Village. The online store has recently re-launched at TemperleyLondon.com.
